Obituary

Bobbie LaRene Carpenter, of Baker City, Oregon passed away at her home during the early morning full moon of Thursday, December 12, 2019, at the age of 73.

Bobbie Taylor was born to Robert and Billie Bea Taylor in Baker City on August 14, 1946. She was their middle child, and especially close to her sister, Jan.

On September 20, 1963, she married Keith Carpenter, who had a career with the railroad at that time. Their marriage was an incredibly close, happy one. For 55 years the two spent as much time with one another as they could, sharing nearly every single day together. They were best friends “forever and a day,” as she always said.

Together the couple had two biological children: Brian and Debbie. They provided a home to several foster children, among those, Vanessa, who became a permanent member of the family. Both Brian and Debbie joined the military, which was a great source of pride for Bobbie.

In her youth, she tried her hand at a variety of hobbies and professions – from cake decorating to photography. She enjoyed fishing at that time and was known in the family for her ability to spin a great tale around the campfire.

In her later years, she and Keith enjoyed camping in the Sumpter area. Riding her horse was one of her passions, as was her dog-grooming business, which she continued until her passing. Bobbie really enjoyed crafting and attending craft shows as a vendor. She was always known for her big heart, and willingness to do anything for anybody.

Christmas was Bobbie’s favorite “season” and during the past few years, she loved holding family open houses for the holiday to show off her ever-growing collection of decorations.

Bobbie is survived by her husband Keith; daughter Debbie; son Brian and wife Terri;  sister and brother-in-law Jan and Keith Martin; brother Rick Taylor and wife; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Billie Bea Taylor; and daughter and son-in-law Vanessa and Sam Lay.

Per Bobbie’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. Her ashes will be spread at a location known to close family at a later date. A private viewing for immediate family only was held on Tuesday, December 17, 2019. An open celebration of life will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2019, from noon until 4 p.m. at her home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Best Friends of Baker City via Gray’s West & Company 1500 Dewey Avenue, Baker City OR 97814.
