Violet May Caviness, age 91, passed away on August 17, 2019 at her residence in Baker City. A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Baker City. Pastor Tim Fisher of Elkhorn Baptist Church will be officiating. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life at the Baker City Eagles Lodge.
Violet was born on May 1, 1928 in Baker, Oregon to Joseph and Dorothy (Rundall) Pupil. She attended Baker High School. Violet was married three times throughout her life, to Kenneth Taylor Sr., Frank Colton and Harry Caviness. She worked as a bartender and as a motel housekeeper. She loved the mountains, fishing, camping, picking huckleberries, bowling and gambling. Violet was one of the first members of Baker County Sheriffs Posse-Ettes and she bowled on numerous leagues.
Survivors include her children, Robert (Joyce) Taylor, Gaylene (Duane) Morris, Kara (Wayne) Mayer, Shorty Colton, all of Baker City, Oregon and Ronald Taylor of Ukiah, Oregon. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Pupil; mother, Dorothy Gekas; two husbands; and her sons, Kenneth (Sonny) and David Taylor.
